Outbreak Updates

Our work is rooted in a spiritual purpose and a desire to serve. We are doing our very best to maintain safe, healthy communities through the pandemic. We are making decisions based on the information and evidence available to us, adapting as necessary. We are adhering to all protocols and public health directives issued by the Chief Medical Officer of Health.

December 16, 2021 News

We are shifting how we communicate to make it more timely and efficient. You can now scroll down to view a chart that lists all our centres and their current status. The table will be updated on Thursdays by 6 p.m. In the case of outbreaks, we will immediately update that information on the table and indicate how many residents and staff have tested positive.

Effective April 1, 2023, we will move from reporting only COVID outbreaks on our website to reporting all outbreaks such COVID, GI, and ILI.

COVID Outbreak: Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)
GI Outbreak: Gastrointestinal Disease
ILI Outbreak: Influenza-like Illness

In addition to the weekly update table, you can also access the family updates which are sent by email and posted below, by outbreak type, for easy reference.

Please stay healthy and safe. Remember to wash your hands frequently with soap and water or using hand sanitizer. Seniors continue to be among the most vulnerable and the most likely to experience severe symptoms should they become infected with the virus. Families, residents, and staff must work hand-in-hand, exercise caution, and practice diligence in following all public health guidelines to keep outbreaks at bay.

The Chief Medical Officer of Health has outlined three levels for COVID and ILI outbreaks:

  • Outbreak Prevention – No residents or staff showing any symptoms.
  • Surveillance – 2 or more surveillance cases in a 7-day period with a common epidemiologic link
  • Confirmed (COVID & ILI) – Two or more (resident or staff) confirmed cases within a 7-day period, with a common epidemiological link.
  • Confirmed (GI) – 2 or more confirmed cases (with initial onset within one 48-hour period) of GI illness with a common epidemiological link.

Note: Epidemiological link means the cases need to have been in the setting (same site/same unit) during their incubation period or communicable period.
